Leket Israel relies on tens of thousands of volunteers each year to help glean and sort produce. Most of our volunteers are Israeli but many of our volunteers are part of tours which come for short term visits.
Edna, mother of five and grandmother to many, made Aliyah (moved to Israel) 30 years ago. Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Edna worked as the Assistant Director of the summer school program at a school in Even Yehuda in central Israel.
“When I found myself with a lot of free time, I knew I had to find something to do and I knew Leket was where I wanted to be,” recalls Edna.
A longtime supporter of Leket, Edna had volunteered numerous times over the years with her family and school, whenever the opportunity arose.
“In the beginning, I went wherever they sent me; to pick tomatoes in Binyamina, or harvest beets in Rishon Lezion, or do home deliveries of hot meals around Ra’anana.”
However, the majority of Edna’s volunteering has been at the Leket Israel Logistics Center. Edna comes three times a week, helping to sort and pack fresh produce for people in need. She has brought friends and family members along with her, some who have never even heard of Leket.
“There are so many people who have time on their hands right now and are looking for a way to help others,” Edna shares. “This is the perfect match between people who want to give back and the growing need throughout Israel. It’s very fulfilling to be able to be on the giving end.”
We thank all all our volunteer and donors for all you do. We couldn’t get along without you!
